  1. You said that Preview adds a border, would that be a clipping mask when viewed by Illustrator? Is it larger than the existing margin added by Edge Erase ® and thus covers up part of the green security paper pattern?

  2. That’s what the CCP said. I’m not sure if NBC confirmed the size of the clipping mask created by Preview (its possible that it changes between OS versions)

  3. Ok, preview creates the clipping mask and edge erase, erase the edges.

    Preview document shows

    q 12 12 588 768 re W n
    /MediaBox [0 0 612 792]

12 pixels at 72 DPI all around or 0.1667 Which I believe obscures the edge erase

    Let me do some research…

  4. Please post the x,y coordinates and width and height pixels from reading your “friends” PDF file. It seems like you have fogotten all about GSGS’s theory.

  5. I opened this raw pdf in Illustrator and it is in landscape orientation (horizontal). I opened it and saved it in Preview and the resulting pdf in Illustrator is in portrait orientation (vertical).

  6. BTW, when I opened both documents in Illustrator I did not get a warning message.

  7. “Ok, preview creates the clipping mask and edge erase, erase the edges.”

On the PDF created with the Xerox 7535, the white edge around the BC seems wider then the Whitehouse PDF. Is that because edge erase ® did it’s thing twice or am I imaging it?

Is the clipping mask created by Preview the same size in both the 7535 PDF and the whitehouse PDF?

  8. Open the WH 7535 in Microsoft Wordpad.

    9 0 obj
    /Contents 10 0 R/
    CropBox[0 0 792 612]/
    MediaBox[0 0 792 612]/
    Parent 5 0 R/Resources 31 0 R/Rotate 270/
    Type/Page
    endobj

    The [0 0 792 612] is backwards.

Is this why in Illustrator the WH 7535 opens in landscape orientation?

  9. “Yes, when you print to PDF it gets corrected”

The only program that opens it in landscape mode seems to be Illustrator, even Photoshop opens it in Portrait.
