Second Kenyan Birth Certificate Surfaces
On the left, is a thumbnail (click to enlarge) of the second Kenyan Birth Certificate. This birth certificate was obtained by Lucas Smith on February 19, 2009 (note stamp in top left corner) and filed as part of the Keyes/Barnett v Obama lawsuit.
The birth certificate is reported to contain the following suspicious elements:
1. Mombassa, British Protectorate of Kenya
2. Missing full date of birth for Barack Sr
3. US style date format mm/dd/yy instead of the almost universally accepted format of dd/mm/yy.
4. Weight and length appear to be in a somewhat a-normal range
5. Name of the Hospital is Coast Province General Hospital
I hope to address all this below the fold
1. The reference to British Protectorate of Kenya is the correct representation, even though officially the Protectorate was still in possession of the Sultan of Zanzibar. In 1895, Great Britain and the Sultan signed an agreement placing Mombasa under British control, where it became part of the Protectorate of East Africa. In 1905, Mombasa ceased to be the capital of the East Africa Protectorate and in 1920 the protectorate became the Protectorate of Kenya.
2. The missing full date can be explained by a) Obama Sr not knowing his own date of birth b) the public not knowing Obama Sr’s proper date of birth
3. Lucas argues that both formats were commonly used in Kenya.
Microsofts NLS page shows for Kenya (LCID: 0441) that both formats are acceptable
8/23/2005
M/d/yyyy
M/d/yy
MM/dd/yy
MM/dd/yyyy
yy/MM/dd
yyyy-MM-dd
dd-MMM-yy
4. No independent sources for Obama’s birth weight and length exist.
5. While some reference the hospital by its name Coast Provincial General Hospital, 1960 documents show that the term Coast Province is used.
In addition, the name of the attending doctor James O.W. Ang’awa has shown up on a paper describing his work on TB in Kenya.
Note that the document claims to be a birth certificate as it exists filed with the hospital and not necessarily a birth certificate as provided through the official authorities under CAP 149.
